Events

Annual Door-Decorating Contest

In Fall 2010, our residents competed in the annual door decorating contest. This year we introduced the Halloween edition where residents were given the task of decorating their doors to depict their favorite scary movies. The winners received a festive basket full of Halloween treats and movie passes.

Phiery Pheasant Run Chili Cook-off

The year's Annual Phiery Pheasant Run Chili Cook-off kicked off a week long homecoming celebration. We had several houses battle for the coveted “Chili Bowl” trophy, gift certificates, and other prizes. We also had residents compete in "Minute to Win It" style games for gift cards and other treats.

Exam Week Bagels / Late Night Pancake Breakfast

At the end of each semester, we set up an all-day breakfast of bagels and coffee in the office for our residents to help energize them for their exams. We also have a nighttime breakfast during the week with pancakes and bacon to give our residents a study break.

“Chip & Dip” Super Bowl Party Contest

One of our newest competitions is the Chip & Dip Contest, introduced in the spring of 2010. We had 11 different houses battle for an awesome Super Bowl package by presenting their best dip recipe to be judged by our management team. The winners received food, sodas, a $50 Buffalo Wild Wings gift card, party accessories, and a 60" flat screen TV rental for the Big Game!

End-of-the-Year Pizza Party/Ice Cream Social

At the end of the spring semester, we team up with Papa John’s in Harrisonburg and Kline’s Ice Cream to help our residents celebrate a job well done. This event is usually held on the last day of exams and allows our staff to send our seniors off with a bang!

Family Weekend Brunch

Our brunch during Family Weekend has become a true tradition. Every year, Pheasant Run hosts a catered brunch and open house, giving students the opportunity to show their parents and friends where they will be living for the next school year. It is also a great way for the Pheasant Run staff to get to know our residents and their families a little better.

“Show Us Your Spirit” Homecoming Tailgate

This year we held our first JMU Homecoming Tail Gate. We provided an afternoon of food and fun for the residents. Activities included our Homecoming Relay Race where residents competed for a gift basket full of JMU paraphernalia and other tailgating essentials. They also enjoyed pumpkin painting and corn hole.

Pheasant Run Phright Night

For Halloween we held our first outdoor movie screening. We rented a giant inflatable movie screen from “Super Screenz”, a wonderful company out of Blacksburg to view the resident’s choice of scary movie under the stars. Pheasant Run Phun Day

To blow of some pre-final steam, we rented an array of inflatable activities, including an Obstacle Course, Home Run Challenge, and Mechanical Bull. Our very own house band, “Sleeping on Stairs” entertained the crowd with popular covers while Papa John’s fed the masses with over 40 pizzas! We included the end of the year “Klines Ice Cream Social” as well. It was truly a “Phun” day!

Find Out What Our Residents Have to Say

All the maintenance workers have done and continue to do a great job clearing the snow. I have friends in other complexes and their roads are not even close to being as clear as ours are. It really makes a big difference and it's nice to know that [the staff of Pheasant Run] care about our safety and well-being.
–John Sutter

All parents share a major concern when their children pack up and head off to college. Yesterday, my daughter called me and said her automobile was completely snowed in from the recent storm. I asked her if she could pay someone to dig it out and she said that she didn't know who to call, so I was preparing to make the 4-hour trip to Harrisonburg to help her. Shortly after we spoke, she called me and said that Pheasant Run had sent a crew of people by and they dug hers and all the other cars that were snowed in out. It is truly a relief to know that the management of Pheasant Run cares enough about their tenants to provide this service and without charge. I am truly a relieved and thankful parent.
–Paul Sykes

The chips, dip, soda, Buffalo Wild Wings, plates, napkins, and 60-inch flat screen rental that we got by winning the Chip and Dip Contest was amazing! Our friends were all jealous and shocked that Pheasant Run would pay for [all of this] for their residents. It was extremely generous of Pheasant Run.
–Adele

Fun contests make P-Run enjoyable and a nice place to live and meet new people.

Best three years of our lives…so far!
–Ashley Moore & Nicole McFadden

Living here has played a major role in my college years. I am very sad to have to leave.
–Casey Culpepper

Everyone in the office is so friendly and helpful, and it was great to be a part of such a nice community.
–Leigh-Ann Mendelson, Logan Quesenbery, Tara Marcone, & Victoria Hurst

Figuring out housing between two semesters abroad can be very stressful, but it truly has been a pleasure because of [the Pheasant Run staff’s] help. I can’t wait to move in.
–Andrew Forte (Future resident)
